Unboxing and Initial Impressions of Huawei Y9 Prime 2019

Talking about pop-up cameras, surely there are a lot of brands that already launched their own version. How would you feel if I say that the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 was the most affordable full screen and pop-up front facing camera? Good news! It’s only priced at Php 12,990.

I am very impressed when I got to unbox the phone, the design is sleek and easy to hold using just one hand. If only I’m not that clumsy, I wanted this phone to be in its default casing bold, Yay! Okay, enough of my introductions, let’s do the unboxing.

In front is a large 6.59-inch 2.5D curved FHD IPS display that is powered by the updated Kirin 710F octa-core processor with the Mali-G51 MP4 GPU and 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Don’t worry, in case you need more space, it is expandable via microSD up to 400GB. The notch-less look is quite impressive.

When you flip it, there’s a triple rear camera set up of a 16MP f/1.8 main camera, 8MP f/2.4 120-degree ultra-wide angle camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor.

The 16MP f/2.2 selfie camera is hidden with a pop-up camera mechanism.

There’s also a button in which a finger print scanner that you can tap in case you wanted to take a photo. The glass-like finish of the phone makes it more noticeable at first glance however the only thing I observed was that it left fingerprints and smudges.

On the right, there is the volume rocker and the power button and I am surprised that there are no buttons on the left.

Right side

On the top of the phone, there’s the pop-up front camera wherein it only shows when you’re going to take a selfie. On the other side there’s the dual sim tray, its hybrid and can fit in a microSD card for storage expansion.

The bottom part houses the 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone and speaker grille.

It is powered by a large 4000mAh battery that charges via USB Type-C and Huawei’s 10W charger.

It is running on Android 9.0 Pie with EMUI 9.0 on top and it comes in black, blue and purple.

Initial Impression:

So far, I am satisfied with the performance of the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. The design looks classy with its shining two-toned color however, it leaves fingerprints and dust, but don’t worry it has a FREE clear case.

As for the camera, the photos taken using the Y9 prime looks decent. The pop up camera is really interesting however one thing that concerns me is its durability. I will also make a separate review of the photos taken using this phone so stay tuned!
